Peshawar 22 April, 2019: Basic Health Unit Mashokhel was ransacked and set to fire by protesters as many children felt ‘unwell’ after they were administered with Polio Vaccine.
National Immunization Campaign April 2019 was launched across country from April 22, 2019. Whereas, on the advice of Technical Advisory Group and National Emergency operation Center and extended age group vaccination campaign was also plugged with NID only in District Peshawar to target under 10-year age of Children.
The controversy began with a routine polio vaccination drive at schools in Mashokhel, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa after dozens of students were rushed for medical attention because they felt unwell after being administered the vaccine.
While the school administration and the affected parents blame the polio vaccine for the students’ ill-health, and Basic Health Unit Mashokhel was ransacked and set to fire by protesters as many children felt ‘unwell’ after they were administered with Polio Vaccine.
Coordinator Emergency Operation Center (EOC) Capt (R) Kamran Ahmed Afridi Categorically rejected the blame circulating in different media outlets linking children health with Polio Vaccination.
The EOC Department in an official notification directed an Investigation committee that shall submit report with in 48 hours under the National and Global importance of Immunization Drive/ Initiative and safety of our Children after receiving many complaints regarding 22nd April adverse events following vaccination.
