Auckland: New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Thursday announced new gun laws banning all military-style semi-automatic and assault rifles.
The declaration pursues the fear assault on two mosques in the southern city of Christchurch on March 15 that left 50 people dead and another 50 harmed, reports Efe.
“I absolutely believe there will be a common view amongst New Zealanders, those who use guns for legitimate purposes, and those who have never touched one, that the time for the mass and easy availability of these weapons must end. And today they will,” said Ardern
Less than a week after a horrific mass shooting that killed 50 Muslim worshippers in Christchurch, New Zealand, the country has banned semiautomatic rifles and established a nationwide buyback program. The ban will take place immediately to prevent stockpiling.
