MTI KTH Ophthalmology department arranged one day workshop leading to international conference – Khyber Eyecon-2019

Feb 22 2019(Peshawar):MTI KTH Ophthalmology Department has organized Annual conference of Ophthalmology in collaboration with Ophthalmological society of Pakistan (Peshawar Branch) and the First national conference of Orbit and oculoplasty is the part of this conference. It is given the name of “Khyber eyecon-2019”.

Orbit and oculoplasty is a super speciality of Ophthalmology which deals with eyelids and orbital (eye socket) disease. MTI KTH Department of Ophthalmology is one of the few departments of the country which are recognized for Orbit and oculoplasty and there are three supervisors in Pakistan including Chairman Department of Ophthalmology Prof Dr Ibrar Hussain of KTH. Approx 150 patients are operated per year in MTI KTH by Chairman Department of Ophthalmology Prof Dr Ibrar Hussain.

Per year approx 100 patients of this rare super speciality Orbit and oculoplasty are referred from all over the KP to KTH, where this service is available.

In this regard, MTI KTH has arranged a workshop in Department of Ophthalmology in which a live surgery has been arranged on a ptosis case. Ptosis is drooping of upper eyelids which cause functional as well as cosmetic problems to the patients. One of the surgical procedures to correct ptosis is “levator resection”. An Ireland based consultant oculoplastic surgeon Dr Rizwana performed the surgery on two patients.The purpose of this workshop is to polish the skills of postgraduate and undergraduate medical students for better patient care. It was attended by a large number of faculty, consultants, TMOs’ and HOs’.
