France Unbowed, the leftist party, aims to reverse Macron’s contentious pension reform

France’s leftist party France Unbowed (LFI) announced plans to introduce legislation on Tuesday aimed at repealing President Emmanuel Macron’s controversial pension reform, which increased the legal retirement age from 62 to 64. LFI’s chief lawmaker, Mathilde Panot, stated that the bill seeks to reverse changes that triggered widespread protests last year.

“We will today submit a legal proposal to repeal the pension reforms,” Panot declared on France Inter radio, emphasizing the reform’s contentious nature and its impact on public sentiment.

The reform, intended to bolster state finances and enhance productivity, has been a focal point for France’s left-wing factions since their strong showing in recent parliamentary elections.
