Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government links Annual Development Programme with Strategic Development Strategy in 2019-23

Peshawar, March 13, 2019: The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is all set to finalize Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS) today Thursday here in a workshop for the province to link the development plan with the Socio-economic development, reduce poverty and provide better livelihood opportunities to general public in the province. The SDS will guide public investment decisions till the year 2023.The experts from government and private sectors in nine thematic areas have completed deliberations on SDS in series of sessions for the last 3 months. The recommendations will be discussed further in open forum with broader participation from all walks of life in the presence of political leadership of the sitting provincial government in today’s workshop to lay a hand on the strategy.
The Chief Secretary Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Salim Khan will chair the morning session and Provincial Senior Minister, Ministers Finance, Agriculture, Education Health will lead the Technical Advisory Groups presentations in the 2nd session of the workshop. The Planning & Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the technical support of Governance and Policy Project is leading the formulation of SDS.
It is pertinent to mention that The 10 Year Development Plan prepared for the erstwhile FATA will be an integral part of the SDS. Besides, a key strategic drift is the merging of the previously Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through 25th Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan in 2018.
Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa developed an Integrated Development Strategy back in 2014 as a medium term development plan which ended in June 2018. Therefore, to continue with the socio economic development of the province, a new development framework was needed.
It is also pertinent to mention that the federal government has already kick started the process for the development of the 12th five-year plan (2019-2023).
